"Get Out is wonderful cinema that offers so much to discuss. Whether you feel uncomfortable throughout or relate to Chris, the film masterfully makes us question this post-Obama world, no matter your political allegiance"
- Jack Shepard, The Independent
"A pitch-perfect neo-liberal nightmare, here is a film about racism in a supposedly post-racial society. But the film has more to do with discomfort and envy than blind hatred. What a strange marvel it is; a film that will be mulled over for decades"
- Donald Clarke, The Times
"Get Out is so good I barely know where to begin; a brilliantly mischievous and unsettling movie. I would reuse the epithet ’spooky’ if I didn’t know the trouble the word caused for the hero of Roth’s The Human Stain, probably America’s fiercest and funniest race-relations seriocomedy before this one"
- Nigel Andrews, Financial Times
"A chilling satire of liberal racism in the US, Peele’s hybrid creation starts out like a modern reworking of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner before going beneath the beatific smile of liberalism to find the still-grinning skull of age-old servitude and exploitation, unveiled during a rollercoaster ride into a very American nightmare"
- Mark Kermode, The Observer
Jordan Peele’s thriller Get Out has become the highest-grossing debut project for a writer-director with an original screenplay.
The plot follows Chris, a young African-American man meeting his white girlfriend’s family for the first time. At their country estate, he slowly discovers the sinister truth behind his invitation. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behaviour as a nervous attempt to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.
Equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary, Get Out stars Daniel Kaluuya (Sicario), Allison Williams (Girls), Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men) and Catherine Keener (Captain Phillips).
